Posted by Austin Bazaar on 6th Jan 2015
For audiophiles, DJs and producers it can be hard to find a good pair of professional monitor headphones that are easy on the eyes and your wallet. If you're looking for headphones under $200 that won't compromise your comfort or listening experience, we highly recommend the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x headphones.
ATH-M50X: Style AND Substance
With amazing sound fidelity, luxurious padded ear pads and a slick design, these over-ear headphones are just as good for listening to music on the go as they are for editing tracks in the studio. This update to the extremely popular ATH-M50 headphones by Audio-Technica is just as good as the original version, with added cable options for mobile listeners.

ATH-M50X Pros and Cons
Pros
- Versatile; suitable for professionals and casual listeners alike
- Cool design; available in different colors and comes with changeable cable types for both mobile and studio situations (short, long, and coiled)
- Balanced frequency range; listen to and produce music on a whooole different level
- Price; Reasonable. In our humble opinion, these blow most headphones under $200 out of the water.
Cons
- If you're looking for true noise-cancelling headphones, the ATH-M50x headphones may not cut it. You'll definitely be able to hear all the nuances of your audio, but consider these more as "noise-muffling headphones"
- Somewhat bulky - though they can be folded and stored to make them more compact
- No integrated volume remote control. You'll have to adjust audio levels on your computer or device
- We've read some reviews that say these are a bit heavy on the bass. No complaints here though!
