Are you experienced -- with how it feels to play a reversed guitar? The reverse-headstock of the Jimi Hendrix Stratocaster puts a twist on the classic Fender Strat to give right-handed players access to a unique sound and playing experience. Read on to find out more!
What kind of Guitar did Jimi Hendrix Use?
Back in the '60s it was a lot harder to find left-handed electric guitars, which led Hendrix to flip over right-handed guitars and restring them to be able to play southpaw. The result was a "reverse" headstock and angled bridge pickup, features that gave Jimi's guitars a distinctive look and tonal response.
Reverse Engineering for a Not-so-Standard Strat
So what happens when you flip a guitar's headstock? First of all, this design extends the string length of the bass strings, creating a tighter playing feel. It also allows for easier vibrato and note bending on the treble strings.
The Jimi Hendrix Strat includes three American Vintage '65 single-coil pickups, one of which is a reverse-slant bridge pickup. This configuration lends to bright upper harmonics and smooth, warm lows, which also helped Hendrix craft his signature style.
Other features include a large '70s-style headstock with Jimi's signature on the back and a neck plate engraved with his silhouette. This model is available in Black or Olympic White, and comes with a Fender gig bag.
