This Uke Goes Way Back
The Waterman was inspired by the vintage Maccaferri ukuleles which were first produced in the 1950's. Italian native Mario Maccaferri combined his skills as a luthier and his business of injection molding to come up with the original waterproof Maccaferi Islander ukulele. The Islander was one of the first plastic ukuleles on the market, and it blew up almost overnight. Needless to say, the science has come a long way since then!
